2026 Call for Research Proposals from Future Leaders in Cardiovascular Research

Following 7 successful rounds of the International Cardiovascular Research Partnership Awards (ICRPA), with the last 4 focused on mid-career investigators that supported 15 multinational collaborative projects, we are pleased to launch an 8th round of the competition.

This year, the scheme expands to welcome 2 new Spanish funding partners: the Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares (CNIC) and the Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red Enfermedades Cardiovasculares (CIBER-CV).

The 2026 round continues the scheme’s aim to support impactful international collaborations between mid-career investigators who are on a clear trajectory towards leadership in cardiovascular research.

Applications must be submitted by Wednesday 27 May 2026 (13:00 BST).

About the scheme

The ICRPA scheme is jointly run by:

  • British Heart Foundation (BHF)
  • Dutch Heart Foundation (DHF)
  • German Centre for Cardiovascular Research (DZHK)
  • Lefoulon-Delalande Foundation (LDF)
  • Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares (CNIC)
  • Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red Enfermedades Cardiovasculares (CIBER-CV)

The awards aim to support ambitious, high-quality projects and foster international cooperation between mid-career investigators. The scope of the scheme covers innovative research that contributes to improved clinical diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of cardiovascular disease, with strong encouragement for multidisciplinary approaches.

Each project must be co-led by at least 3 independent mid-career Principal Investigators (PIs), each based in one of the five participating countries: France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom.

How much funding is available?

Each funding organisation supports the investigators based in their own country. Investigators can request up to €500,000 or £500,000 per funder (€400,000 for DZHK) and projects can have a duration of up to 4 years.

How to apply and eligibility

Full details of eligibility requirements for PIs, funding limits and instructions on how to apply can be found in our 2026 call for proposals document:

Please note that all prospective applicants are required to contact the funders in their respective countries to discuss their eligibility as PIs before submitting an application. UK-based investigators should send an initial email to [email protected].
