Engraving

Enter the names you wish to be engraved on the Heart of Steel. Please only enter one name per engraving. You can add up to 5 engravings in one transaction charged at £20 per name. You may also enter a date if you wish, which will be engraved alongside a name. For information about what you can and can’t get engraved, please see our frequently asked questions below.

Our Heart of Steel name finder app in Meadowhall Shopping Centre is currently out of action. Until it’s fixed, our Customer Care team (0300 330 3322 or [email protected]) can help you find your engraving.

To guarantee you receive your posted certificate in time for Father's Day (Sunday 16th June) please purchase your engravings no later than Friday 7th June. Please note, your confirmation email will also include a downloadable certificate you can print and personalise yourself.

Frequently asked questions

What can I have engraved?

  • The standard format of an engraving is: Firstname Surname
  • You can also include a special date in the following format: dd.mm.yyyy

  • If you wish to include two dates to represent a lifespan e.g. dd.mm.yyyy – dd.mm.yyyy please call our Customer Service Team on 0300 330 3322 and we can take your engraving details and payment over the phone.

  • You may have a relationship or nickname alongside a full name in brackets e.g. Firstname Surname dd.mm.yyyy (Mother)

  • Please note an engraving is for an individual person and you cannot have a family name e.g. ‘The Smith Family’ or include two names e.g. ‘John and Jane Smith’. You can purchase up to 5 names in one transaction which will be engraved next to each other on the Heart.

  • There isn’t room on the Heart of Steel to include long descriptions of people, but you can let your friends and family know why you decided to engrave a name on social media using #HeartOfSteel or leave a testimonial to tell us your story.

General information about the Heart of Steel

  • Where is the Heart of Steel?

  • The Heart of Steel is currently located in Meadowhall shopping centre, between Sheffield and Rotherham

  • What size will my engraving be?

  • Engravings are 0.8mm high and up to 50 characters in length.

  • How many engravings will be on the Heart of Steel?

  • Through this project we hope to have as many names engraved as possible. The more engravings we can fit onto the sculpture, the more we are able to fund our important research. With an aim of 150,000 engravings, the Heart of Steel is a collaborative effort to help beat heartbreak forever.

  • When do the engravings take place?

  • Engravings take place every 3 - 4 months. We'll send you an email to confirm when your engraving has taken place.

Purchasing your engraving

  • What will I receive to show I’ve supported Heart of Steel?

  • You will get a certificate celebrating your donation in approx. 10 days’ time. This can sometimes take slightly longer during peak times such as Christmas and Valentine’s Day.

  • Can I change or cancel my engraving once I have paid?

  • You have 24 hours to get in touch with us to make any changes to or cancel your engraving. Please ensure to thoroughly check your engravings before you submit online, it costs the charity money to resend corrected letters and certificates.

  • Where does my donation go?

  • 100% of the donation comes to the BHF but we do pay a small fee for the facilitation of the specialised engraving service.

  • What is the long term plan for the Heart?

  • The Sculptor, Steve Mehdi’s long term vision is for the Heart of Steel to sit within the Steel Man near Meadowhall, between Sheffield and Rotherham.
