What to donate to our shops

Nine books could fund an hour of scientific research

It's really easy to make a difference and there are lots of items that we can accept. We're always looking for good quality donations of:

  • Furniture and electrical items
  • Clothes for women, men and children
  • Books
  • Shoes and handbags
  • Accessories (including ties, belts and jewellery)
  • CDs and DVDs
  • Children’s toys
  • Homeware

To help us raise as much money as we can, please make sure your items are clean and in good saleable condition. So check shoes are repaired, there's no missing buttons, tears or damage.

There are some items we can't sell for safety or legal reasons. If we can't sell your items, we'll recycle what we can.

How to donate

There are a number of easy ways to donate to our shops, but please check our list of items we can't accept first.

To donate to a BHF Shop you can:

  • drop off your unwanted items at your local BHF Shop
  • book a free collection online for furniture and electrical items you would like to donate, or call 0844 412 5000. We offer a house clearance service as well and your nearest Furniture & Electrical store can provide a free quotation.
  • take your donations to one of the 500 BHF Book Banks or BHF Clothing Banks. Simply put your clean, good quality items into a plastic bag and drop them into a bank near you.
  • fill a BHF donation bag, leave it on your doorstep on the designated day and we’ll pick it up. We regularly post donation bags through doors and collect it a day or so later as part of our household appeals.

And please remember when you make donations, you can add extra value to them with Gift Aid if you are a UK taxpayer.

Recycling

Clothes - British Heart FoundationOur shops prevent over 25,000 tonnes of textiles and furniture going to landfill each year.

We sell your good quality donated items, raising vital funds to help heart patients across the UK.

Clothing and textiles that are not suitable for sale can be recycled too. By passing materials on to organisations these items can be reused in developing countries such as Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe.

We're paid for the materials that we pass on, so we still raise money from items which would otherwise be thrown away.
