Round the Harbours Bike Ride event information
This unique cycling event is a trip
around the Hampshire harbours of Havant, Southsea, Fareham,
and Gosport. It's a great option for families or teams wishing
to choose a shorter route, as participants can start or finish at
any of the harbours.
You'll travel along open roads and
cycle paths, and there's even an option to go off-road for a
portion of the route, although this route option is not suitable
for narrow-wheeled racing bikes.
Enjoy the great outdoors this
summer by cycling along Hampshire's gorgeous coastline.

Fundraising
Please aim to raise as much as you
can. Heart disease touches us all. Every year,
thousands die prematurely, and those who survive can find life
difficult and frightening. The British Heart Foundation is
dedicated to research aimed at ending the
suffering caused by heart disease.
We urgently need your help to
fund this vital research. Your sponsorship could help
fund a project such as developing a device to help babies born with a heart defect.
Please aim to get your
sponsorship to us by 9 September 2013. Your entry fee
covers the cost of organising the event; it's your
fundraising that will help in the fight to beat heart
disease.

Equipment and what to
wear
A cycling top and lycra are ideal but not necessary, although
you should wear clothes suitable for cycling in; they shouldn't be
baggy. Make sure you check the weather forecast and dress
appropriately. See the full cycling kit
list.

Training
The event is suitable for all ability levels. Wheelchair users
are welcome to take part using specialist bikes, but please note
that the BHF does not supply bikes, and the event is run on roads
open to traffic.
For expert tips, training schedules and advice visit the training zone. Remember the golden
rules of exercise: start gently, build up gradually and do it
regularly. Make sure you set achievable goals, which help you to
monitor your fitness and boost your confidence when you achieve
them. Always wear appropriate gear, and if you have any medical
condition or health concerns that may affect you on the day, speak
