Fundraising Board

The Fundraising Board supports BHF in its fundraising from high value individuals, charitable trusts and foundations.

Honorary President: The Rt Hon the Lord Patten of Barnes, CH

Lord Patten was a Member of Parliament from 1979 to 1992. He was a Minister in the Northern Ireland Office and Department of Education and became Minister for Overseas Development in 1986. He became Secretary of State for the Environment in 1989 and Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and Chairman of the Conservative Party in 1990. He was made a Privy Counsellor in 1989 and a Companion of Honour in 1998. 

Lord Patten was appointed Governor of Hong Kong in April 1992, a position he held until 1997, overseeing the return of Hong Kong to China. He was Chairman of the Independent Commission on Policing for Northern Ireland set up under the Good Friday Peace Agreement which reported in 1999. In September 1999 he became European Commissioner for External Relations, a post he held until November 2004. On leaving office in Brussels, he was made a Life Peer and took his seat in the House of Lords in January 2005.  In 2006 he was appointed Co-Chair of the UK-India Round Table. He was Chairman of the BBC Trust from 2011 until May 2014.

He is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh, and Honorary Fellow of Balliol College, Oxford. He served as Chancellor of Newcastle University from 1999 to 2009, and was elected Chancellor of the University of Oxford in 2003. 

Anthony Brooke

Anthony Brooke became a Director of S. G. Warburg & Co. Ltd in 1981 and a Vice Chairman in 1995.  In 1999 Anthony joined Fauchier Partners, as a partner. 

Anthony is currently a Non-Executive Director of Quintessentially UK and of the specialist fund management firm, Bourne Park Capital. He sits on the Investment Committee of the National Portrait Gallery and is a Governor of Mill Hill School. He acts as investment adviser to two major Oxford-based scientific endowments, the Edward Penley Abraham Research Fund and the Guy Newton Research Fund.  He is also a member of the Investments Committee of Christ’s College, Cambridge, having previously served on Christ’s Quincentenary Campaign Board. 

Anthony has a BA in Natural Sciences from Christ’s College, Cambridge and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr Laura Corr MBBS PhD FRCP FESC, Cardiologist 

Dr Laura Corr is a Consultant Cardiologist at Guy's and St. Thomas' NHS Hospital, and practises privately in Harley Street and the Lister Hospital, Chelsea. She has a PhD in Vascular Biology and trained in international cardiology in France.  She was Associate Editor of the European Heart Journal for eight years and has published papers and editorials on risk factor management and angioplasty. 

Laura’s research interests are diet and heart disease.  Her clinical specialty is adult cardiology, valvular and ischaemic heart disease, and risk factor control.

Andrew Graham

Andrew Graham was Deputy Chairman of Colliers International and ran the investment division.  He has always specialised in Real Estate and in particular advising Private Equity groups on property in their Corporate Acquisitions.  He is a Non-Executive Director of TRF, Governor of King Edward V11 Hospital and a member of the Development Board of Place2Be Charity.  He now runs his family’s retail property investment portfolio.

Dr Francesco Granata

Dr. Francesco Granata, M.D., is an accomplished healthcare executive with over 35 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. He is Chairman and Director of Circassia Limited and senior advisor at Warburg Pincus International LLC. Prior to this, he was Executive Vice President at Biogen Idec Inc, and before that he was Group Vice President and President responsible for Canada and major European markets at Schering-Plough Corporation.

Previously, he served as Regional President for Northern Europe and also Middle East and Africa at Pfizer Inc, and as Managing Director of Pharmacia & Upjohn Inc in Italy.

He is currently a Board member of Italfarmaco SpA, a leading Italian pharmaceutical group that operates in both the pharma and chemical sectors; Prismic Pharmaceuticals Inc, a US based medical food company; Quanta Ltd, a UK company that has developed advanced haemodialysis systems for use in the home and clinic; Cell Therapy Ltd, a UK biotechnology company focused on regenerative medicine; and a member of the strategic advisory committee at Lupin, a leading Indian global pharmaceutical company.

Prior to his career in industry, Francesco practised as a medical doctor specialising in cardiology. He holds a degree in medicine and surgery from the University of Pavia, Italy, and was formerly a member of the Board of the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industry Associations.

Michael Sandler

After graduating from Boston University, Michael practiced as a Chartered Surveyor before joining the far more exciting world of financial public relations in 1980. He became a director of Streets Financial, and six years later Michael left to co-found Hudson Sandler. Since 1986 Hudson Sandler has been at the forefront of financial PR - advising a wide range of quoted companies and City institutions as well as working on numerous takeovers, listings and fundraisings. Hudson Sandler is one of the leading corporate and financial public relations company in London.

In addition to his role on the Fundraising Board with The BHF, Michael is a trustee of Weizmann UK.

Lance Trevellyan BSc (Hons) FCA, FRSA

Lance Trevellyan is founder and Chairman of the Trevellyan Group, a trading and investment group specialising in petrol retailing, fine art publishing, property investment and development, wood production and marketing. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants England and Wales, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Manufacture and Commerce and a Trustee of Jersey Heritage.

Lance served on the Board of Trustees from 2009 to 2016, and the Retail Committee from 2010 to 2016. Lance is also Chairman and Founder of a Jersey based art publisher and retailer, a property company and a Director of one of Jersey’s oldest investment management companies.

Professor Alice Roberts, honorary member of the Fundraising Board

Alice Roberts is an anatomist and anthropologist, television presenter, author and Professor of Public Engagement with Science at the University of Birmingham. She has presented 'Coast', 'Horizon' and several series about human evolution – including 'The Incredible Human Journey', 'Origins of Us' and 'Prehistoric Autopsy' – on BBC 2. She has also presented 'Inside Science' on Radio 4, and writes a regular science column for The Observer. 

Her latest book 'The Incredible Unlikeliness of Being' takes a surprising tour around the human body, explaining how we function and how we might evolve. Her previous books include 'Evolution: The Human Story', 'The Incredible Human Journey' and 'The Complete Human Body'. 

Alice lives near Bristol with her husband and two children.
