Today, Tesco launched Dance Beats, a new fundraising campaign, to support three leading health charities; with cancer, heart and circulatory diseases and diabetes accounting for more than half of all deaths in the UK, Tesco hopes that Dance Beats will bring the UK together to have fun, show off their moves and raise vital funds for its charity partners.
What is Dance Beats?
Dance Beats is a major new fundraiser which will run throughout June and July, culminating in three days of epic dance marathon fundraising events in thousands of Tesco stores across the country on the 18th,19th and 20th July.
These events will coincide with an ambitious Guinness World Record attempt at Wembley stadium on the 19th and 20th July where thousands of Tesco colleagues and members of the public will come together to complete a 30-hour dance marathon relay.
Dance Beats kicked off in style with a dance performance by a 22-strong troupe. This supergroup is made up of celebrities including Oti Mabuse and Aston Merrygold, Tesco colleagues and charity supporters.
Jadyn, who is representing the BHF in the supergroup, had a cardiac arrest at the age of six. He was at home when he collapsed, and his dad performed CPR on him and saved his life.
Doctors discovered he had a previously undiagnosed rare congenital heart condition called ALCAPA (his left main artery, supposed to carry oxygenated blood to the heart muscle, was actually carrying deoxygenated blood and damaging the heart muscle). He needed open heart surgery, which was a success.
Jadyn has made a full recovery and discovered a love of dancing. He is now taking to the Dance Beats floor and is considering a future career in jazz dancing.
