The BHF eBay shop is the biggest selling UK charity retailer on eBay and is celebrating this week after hitting the £10 million sales milestone, since opening their online shop on eBay.co.uk.
Members of our eBay team, Andrew Ostcliffe (Online Operations Manager), Annabel Roebuck (Customer Services Team Supervisor), Andrew Shaw (Online Sales Supervisor) and colleagues.
After joining forces with eBay in 2006, our eBay operation has raised £10 million on the site to support life saving heart research. We have a dedicated eBay warehouse in Leeds which has grown extensively over the last 5 years and now boasts a committed team of full time specialists and volunteers.
Our eBay team value and sell rare, unique and valuable items initially donated to the 728 BHF shops nationwide, which go on to auction for eBay customers worldwide, enabling us to turn bargains into breakthroughs that will help beat heart disease for good.
Allison Swaine-Hughes, Retail Operations Director at the British Heart Foundation said: ‘We are delighted to have raised £10 million pounds through trading our carefully selected stock on eBay. Our eBay shop allows us to have access to 233 million potential customers, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, which makes it invaluable in raising vital funds for our life saving heart research around the clock.’
‘It’s the quirky, unusual stuff that makes the most money and the team do a great job searching for hidden gems which do well on the site.”
Our eBay shop is a collectors’ paradise and continues to grow from strength to strength. The team recently sold a handwritten letter from best-selling children’s author Enid Blyton, a full brass orchestra set including a 26 bell fiberglass sousaphone, an original Curta calculator which was developed by Curt Herzstark while imprisoned in the Buchenwald concentration camp and a vintage carved samurai bag, to name just some.
The eBay team also works with our official celebrity ambassadors, who donate personal goods. Recently they sold 42 items of clothing and accessories from our ambassador, The Duchess of York.
After opening up our eBay shop 11 years ago with just two employees above a BHF shop in Halifax, the eBay team is now based in a large warehouse in Leeds, with a dedicated team of specialists in sectors such as books, clothing, music, electricals and jewellery, all of whom are trained to identify valuable and significant items.
