Abingdon-based Dane Jenner, aged 26, will be taking on our Blenheim Palace Half Marathon in October to raise vital funds for our life saving research into heart disease.

Dane has been inspired to support us because of his work at the Oxford Heart Centre. Dane works as a physiotherapy assistant supporting those recovering from heart surgery and those living with heart failure to get back on their feet.

Dane explains: “Ever since studying at University, I have become fascinated with the cardiovascular system and wanted a career where I could combine fitness and really making a difference to people’s lives.

“After spending two years gaining invaluable skills and experience in physiotherapy, specifically for heart failure patients in Australia, I made the move to England and became part of the Oxford Heart Centre team.

“Increasing fitness levels comes harder to heart failure patients and those recovering from heart surgery, which is why cardiac rehab and physiotherapy is so important. It’s incredible that the BHF is funding so much research into heart disease, but until the day finally comes where we can end its devastation, I want to help make sure those suffering can get back on their feet as quickly as possible and live their lives to the fullest.

“Taking on a half marathon is something I’ve not done before, but it’s my way of walking a mile in my patient’s shoes. For some of them, a trip to the shops can be exhausting. And to be able to raise money for a cause so close to my heart, and my career, makes it even more worthwhile, however much I struggle on the day. The beautiful scenery will definitely be a much-needed distraction!”

Cardiac rehabilitation

Cardiac rehabilitation is a programme of exercise and informative sessions for people who have suffered a heart attack, or are recovering from heart surgery, or a procedure. With the help from people like Dane, these sessions will help patients understand their condition, recover and reduce their risk of further heart problems.

To help us continue our fight for every heartbeat, you can sponsor Dane by visiting his JustGiving page or take part in an event yourself.

Run for research

There are still places available at the Blenheim Palace 2km fun run, 10k or half marathon. The run gives people the chance to conquer the grounds of the Blenheim Palace Estate, a route that is packed full of stunning scenery and jaw dropping views.
