This year we have been selected as one of the benefiting charities and we are excited to announce that footballing legend Graham Souness and former England rugby player Lee Mears will be attending the day on our behalf.
Graham Souness was the captain of Liverpool Football Club in the early 1980s and player-manager of Rangers in the late 1980s. He also played for Tottenham Hotspur, Middlesbrough and Sampdoria over his long career. Lee Mears is a former English rugby union footballer, who played hooker at Bath rugby club.
Both Graham and Lee are great supporters of the work we do and the research we fund. Graham underwent a triple heart bypass at the age for 38, just after he retired, and Lee was forced to retire from professional rugby in 2013 due to a life-threatening heart condition.
Last year’s event raised approximately $12 million globally benefiting numerous charities. This year funds raised for us through the BGC Charity Day will help us continue to support the millions of people living with cardiovascular disease across the UK.
One of the projects which will receive support is our Heart Helpline which is a lifeline to so many living with heart disease and their families. Our team of Cardiac Nurses and Information Support Officers are available to answer any questions heart patients or their loved ones may have.
Whether it is for help with understanding a heart condition or information about keeping your heart healthy, our Heart Helpline team are here to help.
