ITV’s Text Santa raised an incredible £850,000 to support our work, over Christmas.
The generosity of ITV viewers means that we are able invest in a number of projects to provide invaluable support and care for those living with heart conditions.
Funding specialist nurses
Money raised will help fund specialist nurses to help identify and support those suffering from the genetic condition Familial Hypercholesterolaemia (FH). FH results in exceptionally high levels of cholesterol in the blood, it occurs in around one person in 500, and there are more than 120,000 people in the UK are believed to have FH. Diagnosing and treating people with FH early can reduce the number of people who get coronary heart disease or die prematurely.
The projects that will benefit from this funding will be:
- Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust
- South Yorkshire Cardiothoracic Centre
- Greater Manchester and Cheshire Cardiac and Stroke Network
- University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust
- NHS Grampian North of Scotland Cardiac Network
- Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust
In addition funds will also go towards the Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, Cardiac Rehab Project and the BHF Heart Helpline. Cardiac rehabilitation provides exercise and information sessions to help those after a heart attack, heart surgery or procedure get back to everyday life as efficiently and successfully as possible.
The Heart Helpline provides a lifeline to heart patients. Our cardiac nurses and heart health advisors are on hand to help with any questions or concerns heart patients or their family may have about heart health and heart conditions.
