Max jumped at the chance to flex his upcycling talents, creating truly unique pieces of furniture for his space – highlighting how donated items from our shops can be creatively transformed into something special.

Famous for his eclectic designs, Max McMurdo’s hunter lodge theme included chair legs which had been turned into an antler wall mounting, a table created from upturned chairs – and even a lamp shade made from chair legs!

He said of the challenge; “We’ve got a reputation for doing things in an innovative, quirky way; this started out as ‘hunting lodge chic’ but we got carried away! The Northampton BHF store was a real Aladdin’s Cave - we were like kids in a sweet shop.

One of my favourite things about upcycling is the amount of benefits – you’re saving items from landfill, learning new skills and with British Heart Foundation shops, you’re doing something charitable too.’’
