The Duke of Edinburgh with Simon Gillespie

H.R.H. The Duke of Edinburgh held a special event at St James’ Palace today to celebrate over 55 years of his patronage for the British Heart Foundation.

More than 100 guests joined His Royal Highness for a dinner to celebrate just how far we’ve come in the in the fight against heart disease.

His Royal Highness has been our patron since the charity formed in 1961. Since then, our pioneering research has helped halve death rates from heart and circulatory disease in the UK, and saved and transformed millions of lives across the world.

Simon Gillespie, our Chief Executive, said: “This was such an incredible opportunity to celebrate our patron, H.R.H. The Duke of Edinburgh, for his unwavering and generous support for the BHF, and his continuing dedication to our fight against heart disease through life saving research.”
