The Huddersfield British Heart Foundation (BHF) shop is celebrating a recent special visitor as The Duchess of York, popped into the shop on Friday 16th June.

The Duchess came to the shop on the Friday afternoon, meeting the Huddersfield shop team including volunteers and people affected by heart disease themselves. The team were able to give the Duchess a tour of the shop and tell her about the vital work the BHF does funding life saving heart research.

The Duchess of York said “I am honoured to be working with the British Heart Foundation and to support their incredible work, in particular highlighting the issue of women and heart disease, with women twice as likely to die from heart disease than breast cancer. I've loved meeting the team at the BHF shop - they are an integral part of the fundraising effort."

The Duchess was in the local area judging a competition run with students from The University of Huddersfield, of which she is a Visiting Professor. The students were tasked by the Duchess to design devices that could help women at risk of heart disease, with the competition being judged on Friday.

Debbie Boylen, Regional Manager at the BHF said: “It was great to have the Duchess of York come along to visit our Huddersfield shop – it’s certainly something we will all remember for a long time!

“It was great to have the opportunity to chat to the Duchess about the pioneering heart research our shop helps to fund and for her to also to meet some of our dedicated volunteers who give up their time to help make this research a reality. If she is ever in the area again, we’d love to welcome her back!”
