David Lloyd Clubs are giving unwanted sportswear a new home in aid of the BHF

Following research estimating that 12 million pairs of trainers and 46 million sports tops remain unworn; David Lloyd Clubs are joining the fight against heart disease by appealing for unloved sportswear. 

David Lloyd Leisure has revealed that our wardrobes hide an estimated 12 million pairs of unused trainers.

One in five people own one or more pairs of trainers that they have never worn and nearly a quarter of people (22%) have sports tops that have never even seen the gym. 

However whilst there are a staggering number of unloved trainers lurking at the back of the wardrobes across the UK, it seems that millions of us are very much attached to our favourite pairs, with 76% of people saying that they wear them when not doing sport, and 24% saying that they wear their most-loved pairs nearly all the time.

Sportswear amnesty

David Lloyd Clubs is giving sportswear loving Brits the chance to give their unwanted items a new home whilst helping fund our life saving research into heart disease.

Throughout November, the 83 David Lloyd Clubs across the UK are calling on their members and the public to join the fight for every heartbeat and donate all those sports tops with the labels still on, the trainers that have never pounded a treadmill and the sports bottoms that have never been stretched into to a downward dog pose. All items will be found a new, loving home through our high street shops.

The campaign is part of David Lloyd Leisure's two-year fundraising partnership with us. The commitment is to raise £200,000 for our research as well as provide our shops with valuable stock.
