Our award winning partnership

29 October 2015

Staff members at Asda Our partnership with Asda has won gold for the ‘Most effective short-term partnership’ at this year’s Corporate Engagement Awards.

The partnership saw Asda become the UK’s first large retailer to commit to having CPR trained staff and a public access defibrillator in every one of their stores and depots. They were part of our campaign to improve cardiac arrest survival rates across the UK.

Chain of survival

More than 30,000 people suffer a cardiac arrest outside of hospital every year in the UK, but only one in ten people survive. Research has shown that if a chain of survival is followed - immediate 999 call, early CPR and defibrillation and proper post resuscitation care - then survival rates could be higher.

Asda’s commitment to install public access defibrillators and train their staff in CPR in each of its 607 stores and depots. The programme has already saved the lives of customers nationwide.

Our partnership

Our Head of Corporate Partnerships, James Hails, said: “We are delighted that our partnership with Asda has been recognised. Cardiac arrest survival rates in the UK are astonishingly low. Asda’s bold commitment to have CPR trained staff and public access defibrillators in every store has been instrumental in helping communities up and down the country access the life saving support they need in an emergency. However we still have a long way to go to improve survival rates and we urge fellow high street businesses to follow in Asda’s footsteps.”
