We are really excited to be a partner in the UK’s first ever #GivingTuesday on 2 December 2014.
To support #GivingTuesday we will be launching our own ‘Gift of Life’ on 24th November, encouraging the British public to donate and support our lifesaving work.
The global movement celebrates the amazing acts of generosity people perform throughout the year, culminating in an annual global day of giving, this year on December 2, 2014. The day will ask people to give their time, money or voice to charity as an alternative to the start of the pre-Christmas spending of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. We will be asking the UK to join the fight against heart disease by texting a donation on #GivingTuesday.
Launched in the US in 2012 by 92nd Street Y, in partnership with the United Nations Foundation the campaign has since become a global movement, spreading to markets around the world with Canada, Mexico, Israel, Australia, Singapore and Latin America all getting on board in 2013.
Launching in the UK
Led in the UK by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), #GivingTuesday is working closely with Blackbaud, the Cabinet Office, and a wide range of charities, companies and sector bodies.
A Parliamentary reception has been held to bring together #GivingTuesday partners and parliamentarians to share ideas for the day and raise awareness. Rob Wilson, the New Minister for Civil Society will speak and MPs from across the political spectrum are expected to be there.
Louise Parkes, our Fundraising Director adds: “We are thrilled to be working with Charities Aid Foundation to launch #GivingTuesday in the UK this year. It offers the people of the UK a great opportunity to do one simple thing for a charity they care about at the start of the Christmas period. One in four of our loved ones are lost to heart and circulatory disease each year, so this Christmas we are asking the British public to show their support and give a little to help make a big difference to those affected by heart disease.”
