Coronary heart disease was the leading cause of avoidable deaths in men in England and Wales, according to new data published by the Office for National Statistics.
In 2012, heart disease was responsible for 22 per cent of avoidable male deaths in England Wales. The leading cause amongst women was lung cancer, which accounted for 15 per cent of avoidable deaths.

“Last year governments in England and Wales published new strategies for tackling heart disease. If we want to stop lives being needlessly lost it is vital that health commissioners and local authorities implement these plans with the drive this issue demands.”
