We're delighted to announce that 80s singing sensation Jaki Graham is joining us as a celebrity supporter.
Jaki is one of the biggest selling UK soul singers of the 80s with hits such as 'Set Me Free', 'Could it be I'm Falling in Love?', and 'Round Round'. She holds a Guinness World Record as the first black British female solo artist to have six consecutive Top 20 hits.
Waiting while my husband was having heart surgery was one of the hardest things I’ve been through
Jaki's husband of 38 years, Tony, had heart bypass surgery in March this year. He also suffers from atrial fibrillation, a heart rhythm disorder that leaves people five times more likely to have a stroke.
Although there is a history of heart disease in their family, Tony's diagnosis came out of the blue. Ever since Jaki has been passionate about raising awareness of the symptoms of heart disease, so that other families can notice the warning signs before it's too late.
“Waiting while my husband was having heart surgery was one of the hardest things I’ve been through. There’s a history of heart disease in our family but we simply didn’t spot the signs, and now it’s become our whole life - the impact has been huge.
"There are 2.3 million people in the UK like my husband, and they’ve all got families like mine who have to fight heart disease every day. I’m delighted to be working with the BHF and helping to raise awareness of its support and life-saving research.”
