The challenge

Are you ready to take on our picturesque endurance event, staying on your feet for up to 12 hours and walking 50km during the day? This event is a great challenge for those who enjoy walking, groups of friends looking for something new to try, or a group of colleagues looking for a great team-building exercise.

Registration costs

Standard Price 
Adult £40

You must be 16 years old to take part, and under-18's must be accompanied by an adult. Because of the testing nature of the trek we would recommend that you train for this challenge and take part with a friend or as part of a team.  If you would prefer a paper registration form, please complete this form and email it to [email protected]


Your entry fee covers the cost of organising the event, but it's the money you raise that powers our life saving research. Previous Heart Trekkers have aimed to raise £400 to take on this event and many look at joining our 500 Club, becoming a BHF Champion.

How to get to the start of your challenge

Start of your 50k Trek

Spelthorne Leisure Centre, Knowle Green, Staines, TW18 1AJ

London to Henley Finish

Henley, Henley, RG9 1BF

Getting to Spelthorne Leisure Centre

Train: Staines Train Station is a 0.6 mile walk from the Spelthorne Leisure Centre. Train times and prices are available on the National Rail website.

Bus: The two nearest bus stops are on Knowle Green (0.3 miles away) and Kingston Road (0.8 miles away). Bus timetables can be found on the Transport for London website.

Car: Free drop off parking is available at the Leisure Centre but cars are not allowed to stay during the duration of the event.


Leaving Henley 

Train: Henley-on-Thames Train Station is a 0.5 mile walk from the trek finish location. Train times and prices are available on the National Rail website.

Bus: The nearest bus stop is on Station Road (0.3 miles away). Bus timetables can be found on the Arriva Bus Website

Car: Pay and Display car parking is available adjacent to the event site.

Get fit for your London to Henley Trek challenge

This event is a full day of walking to complete the full 47km. We suggest you start training at least three months before the event, building up your distance mile by mile, a brand new training guide is now available.

Being active is an important part of reducing your risk of developing cardiovascular disease.

Support vehicles

Although there will be sweeper vehicles along the route to collect heart trekkers needing assistance and take them to the most relevant location on the route, we strongly recommend every walker has access to their own support vehicle. This could be a friend or family member at the end of the phone who is available to come and pick you up.

At the London to Henley Trek

Our trek takes you through Windsor and Cookham before arriving in Henley and hugs the river Thames for much of the way. It's quite a flat route but does include a couple of hills. 

The whole route will be signed with Day-Glo arrows. You will need to check in with marshals at each checkpoint. Every walker will be given a map of the route before the walk.  

We recommend that you walk in pairs or more.

We strongly suggest that you bring a blister kit (including plasters and antiseptic cream)

There will be toilets along the route.

At each checkpoint (approximately every 10-15k), there will be a water stop where there will be varying facilities available to you, including an additional water supply if you are running low on water.

During the event there will be points where you can buy refreshments however we would strongly advise you to bring your own supplementary snacks as well. 

The terrain

The route is a mix of muddy paths, fields, tarmac tracks and gravel/loose stone trails. We suggest light weight waterproof walking shoes for these types of surfaces, but you may find it useful to try different types of foot wear during your training to see what suits you best.


Trekkers are welcome to bring well behaved dogs on the challenge, but they must be able to cope with the distances involved. The decision to bring a dog is entirely at the discretion of the owner.  

Luggage transfer

The BHF are able to transfer any extra luggage you don’t want to carry with you to the finish location of your trek. (Please ensure this is nothing more than one small bag as space will be limited in our vehicles) you should ensure everything you need whilst trekking is in your rucksack as you will not be able to access this additional bag until the finish.

At the finish

After being presented with your well-deserved medal, hot food, sports massage and a rest area will be provided at the finish along with a warm welcome from your supporters and the BHF events team.

Welcome to the club

Back for 2018 is our exclusive 500 club, for those who smash the minimum sponsorship target for an event and go on to raise over £500. 

If you have £500 or more (excluding GiftAid) pledged by your supporters on your JustGiving page firstly congratulations you are amazing! You'll now be eligible to join the 500 Club and receive your exclusive BHF jersey

For teams to be eligible there must be at least £500 or more (excluding Gift Aid) pledged per person, along with the names of all eligible entrants showing on the team fundraising page and each individual needs to fill in a separate form in each case to claim the 500 club jersey.

(E.g A team of 4 would need a minimum of £2000 (exc Gift Aid) pledged on their team page)
