Twice as deadly as breast cancer
Did you know that?
- There are around 3.5 million women living with a heart or circulatory disease (including heart disease and stroke) in the UK
- 24,000 women die from coronary heart disease each year in the UK, most commonly due to a heart attack – that's an average of 65 women per day
Many girls and women don’t realise they can be at risk of heart disease, which can make them more likely to ignore the symptoms and delay getting help. Understanding your condition, the tests and treatments you may be going through, and the medications you take, will help you on the road to recovery.
Here at BHF we are funding nearly £4 million into research specifically into women and heart disease. Find out more about those research projects.
Reducing your risk
A risk factor is something that increases your likelihood of getting a disease. There are several risk factors for coronary heart disease (CHD) and stroke, also known as cardiovascular disease.
The good news is, in many cases, coronary heart disease in women can be prevented. Whatever your situation, you can reduce the impact of your risk factors and improve your chances of preventing CHD by adopting healthy lifestyle habits.
Together, we can raise funds for life saving research.
