Help us award £30 million in research to tackle heart and circulatory disease

three people talking at a panel meeting

Want to use your experiences of heart or circulatory disease to help us award a £30 million research grant?

This is your chance to get involved in BHF’s Big Beat Challenge as a member of our Patient and Public Panel.

The Big Beat Challenge is a new £30 million award from the British Heart Foundation which will push the international research community to identify a real world challenge, a significant unmet need or an opportunity for game-changing innovation in heart and circulatory science or medicine.

This research award will be a big opportunity for a multidisciplinary research team to identify and propose a transformational solution to a significant problem in heart or circulatory disease.

What will I be doing?

We are now looking for patient and public representatives from the international community to join our ‘Big Beat Patient and Public Panel’. This panel will play a crucial role in reviewing applications with a particular focus on:

  • assessing the importance of the research question to people affected by heart and circulatory disease
  • the potential benefit to people affected by heart and circulatory disease
  • its commitment to patient and public involvement (PPI), both in the development of the research question and design, and proposed plans for ongoing involvement
  • the development of researchers’ applications such as plans for public engagement and communication of their project

How do I get involved?

Remember, you do not need to have a scientific background or any prior scientific knowledge – all we ask is that you have a keen interest in the research BHF funds. We will provide you with full training and support to ensure you are fully prepared to take on the role.
