Active challenges

Individual and team physical activity challenges are great at engaging staff and creating the necessary buzz in your workplace.

Pedometer Challenge

A Pedometer Challenge is a fun way to encourage employees to be more active.

Over four weeks teams of participants wear pedometers and track their steps each day, competing to see who can do the most.

You can order pedometers from our online shop, and our Pedometer Challenge resources contain guidance on how to organise and promote the contest.

I used to take two buses to work but the Pedometer Challenge showed me how much I would walk by not taking the second bus and, in terms of time, it's about the same.

Stair Climb Challenge

A Stair Climb Challenge is a great way to get hearts pumping and increase employees’ step count.

Individuals or teams use the stairs during their commute and at work. Challenge colleagues to climb the equivalent height of famous mountains or landmarks such as 'Big Ben' (42 flights of stairs) or Mount Kilimanjaro (2,578 flights of stairs).

You can run the challenge as a special, day-long event, or you could use it to encourage staff to use the stairs more often over the course of a few weeks.

Be Active Challenge

The Be Active Challenge Tracker helps employees to plan how they will build activity into their days, and track whether they're achieving the recommended amount.

The aim is to build up to at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity a week.

The tracker is a great resource to use in combination with your other workplace health activities. Depending on the size of your company, you may want to give a tracker to every employee.

We’ve joined forces with Sport England and the County Sports Partnership Network in Workplace Challenge, an initiative to encourage participation in sport and physical activity.

Businesses can sign up to give their workforce the chance to win prizes by doing more activity, to receive training and support, and to compete against other local businesses in friendly sporting events.

Choose your BHF challenge

British Heart Foundation events offer challenges for a range of activities including trekking, running, cycling and swimming. Set your goal, train with colleagues and raise money for our life saving research by asking family, friends and colleagues to sponsor you.
