How to deal with loneliness
Become a volunteer, go outdoors or call a friend are some of our 7 ways to deal with loneliness.
1. Do some volunteering
It will bring you into contact with other people.
Get some ideas for volunteering.
2. Go outdoors
Say hello to a neighbour, or a shop assistant. Some people find that just being around other people in the street can help.
3. Call, text or email a friend
Keep in touch with a friend next time you’re feeling lonely.
4. Consider getting a pet
A dog or cat can provide company, and walking a dog is more likely to bring you into contact with people than walking on your own.
5. Join U3A
The University of the Third Age (U3A) movement helps retired and semi-retired people come together and learn together, "for the joy of discovery". There are many local groups covering everything from art to maritime history to tai chi and much more.
6. Occupy yourself by doing something that interests you
Take that chance and enjoy it. Meditation and yoga can help you relax and enjoy time on your own.
