Bag it Beat it

Maggie Griffin and Cordelia

Sarah Brealey meets some of the heroes who help turn your donations into money to help power our life-saving research.

This September, we’re asking you to Bag It. Beat It. and donate bags of your unwanted items to BHF shops to help fund our lifesaving research.

Someone who knows the importance of these donations is Maddie Griffin, whose daughter, Cordelia, was born with transposition of the great arteries, a congenital heart condition where the major arteries leaving the heart are the wrong way round. When Cordelia was born, she was incredibly poorly and needed to be operated on immediately.

Your donations help fund research to allow 40,000 little heroes like Cordelia continue to fight congenital heart disease and get to school. Getting those donations from the back room of our shops onto the shop floor where they can raise life-saving funds depends on the support of thousands of volunteers who are responsible for sorting, cleaning and pricing them and more.

We took Cordelia and her mum to meet Norma West, one of these backroom heroes, who is responsible for sorting some of the jewellery you donate.

How you can help

To help us fight back against congenital heart disease, fill a bag with good-quality clothes, shoes, books, handbags, DVDs, CDs, bric-a-brac or children’s toys and bring them to your local BHF shop.
