Shake up September
Many of us spend more than 60% of our waking hours at work, often sat at our desks for hours on end. This sedentary behaviour is having a detrimental effect on our health, with physical inactivity accounting for 1 in 4 deaths globally.
Research has shown that physical activity can boost morale, communication, lift team spirit, increase productivity and reduce the number of sickness absence days taken. This year Shake up September is returning to get people moving and take full advantage of the Rio buzz. Here’s how to take part:
1. Sign up to Workplace Challenge
If you haven’t already, sign up and promote the Workplace Challenge’s online activity tracker to your staff. They’ll be encouraged to shake up their September by taking part in and logging as many sports as possible.
2. Showcase sports
Read up about what activity your workplace can promote to staff. Each day during the month long campaign Workplace Challenge will be highlighting how workplaces can get involved in different Olympic and Paralympic sports.
3. Download the bingo card
Take it a step further and use the bingo card to try some of the 23 different sports featured. Once you’ve completed a line, tweet BINGO using the hashtag #ShakeUp2016
4. Make it social
It's always more fun to exercise with others (and staff will be less likely to give up with the added pressure of making a commitment to do an activity). Invite your colleagues to sign up, take a look at the events and competitions available in your area, including Rio inspired sports days and Business Games Events.
