On 10 May 2013, Andy Kerrison lost his brother, Richard, to heart failure. Richard battled with the condition for 10 months after suffering a severe heart attack, sadly passing away on his 45th birthday.
Andy remembers his brother as a young and healthy man who loved to play football. Nothing prepared him and his family for the effects heart failure would have.
"For Richard the effects were life changing. His liver wasn't functioning. He had to learn to walk again. Nobody tells you about that."
Andy and his family continue to support our Mending Broken Hearts Appeal, hoping soon we can stop the suffering of those living with the condition.
"I'd like to think that we will find a cure for heart failure in the future, and nobody has to suffer that pain like Richard did."
Andy and his family set up a Gift of Hope fund in Richard's memory to raise vital funds for our Mending Broken Hearts Appeal.
