BHF research has driven incredible advances in prevention, diagnosis and treatment – and the annual number of heart and circulatory disease deaths in Wales has fallen by half.
Thanks to modern therapies built on BHF-funded discoveries, today in Wales seven out of every ten heart attack victims will survive.
But still more than 375,000 people in Wales have to live with the daily challenges of heart and circulatory disease. An ageing and growing population and improved survival rates from heart and circulatory events could raise the burden further.
As part of our world-class research programme, we are currently investing £6.5million to fund research programmes and projects in Cardiff and Swansea universities.
