Over 20,000 Santander colleagues joined the fight for every heartbeat and raised an incredible £1.2 million for the nation’s heart charity.

In 2015, we were thrilled to be selected as Santander's charity of the year.

Our year-long partnership raised an incredible £1.2 million to help the BHF in its fight against cardiovascular disease (CVD) and the funds raised by Santander will help support the BHF’s Heart Helpline for two years, providing practical and emotional support to heart patients and their families. It will also enable the charity to fully fund two research projects over three years, which could lead to better treatments for people living with CVD.

Fundraising Challenges

To raise this fantastic total Santander staff participated in numerous fundraising activities including; taking part in Wear It. Beat It. in February, taking on the Dechox challenge in March and clearing out their clutter to donate to our Bag It. Beat It. appeal in September. In December, colleagues also participated in our festive fundraising activities, such as joining our Chase the Pud Runs and wearing Christmas jumpers to work.

Additional Charity of the Year fundraisers included an International Community Challenge, which saw a team of Santander colleagues taking part in an overseas project to India and over 1,300 colleagues taking part in a 50 million step challenge, walking 10,000 steps every day for 10 days.

Nathan Bostock, Chief Executive Officer of Santander, had this to say about the partnership:

"We have a great track record of fundraising thanks to the boundless enthusiasm and energy of our employees and the generosity of our customers and suppliers who have all helped to make this such a fantastic year with the BHF"

Creating a Nation of Lifesavers

As well as these fundraising challenges, Santander colleagues have been trained in CPR as part of our Nation of Lifesavers campaign. In all, 1,300 colleagues in head offices have been trained up and CPR training has been rolled out to all 850 Santander branches, providing 20,000 staff with access to this lifesaving training. As a result of the campaign, Santander also installed AEDs into its major offices to further support the chances of survival in the case of a cardiac arrest.

Thank You

To everyone at Santander who helped make this partnership a success.
