Join us for a 12-mile towpath walk along the tree-lined banks of the Leeds to Liverpool Canal and finishing at the beautiful heritage village of Saltaire.
The towpath walk offers a wonderful atmosphere and we warmly invite the whole family to join us as we fight for every heartbeat.

Getting to the Armley Mills

By car

For travel by car, please enter postcode LS12 2QF into your GPS.


There is free parking at the front of the museum with disabled parking immediately outside of the entrance. Additional parking is available in the Vue Cinema complex on Kirkstall Road.

By train

The nearest train station is Burley Park which is a 1 mile walk from the Museum. Leeds Railway Station is 1.6 miles from the museum.

By bus

Bus number 5 operates between Leeds Railway Station and Armley Mills Museum. Bus numbers 33, 33A, 508 and 757 travel from the city centre to the Vue Cinema complex on Kirkstall Road. Access to Armley Mills is available behind the complex over the foot bridge.

By foot from Leeds Railway Station

Armley Mills is around a 30 minute walk from Leeds Railway Station and is also accessible by the Leeds and Liverpool Canal tow path. To walk from the station turn left onto Wellington Street then continue onto Kirkstall Road (A65) for 0.6 miles. Turn left onto Viaduct Road and continue for 0.3 miles then continue onto Canal Road. Armley Mills will be on the right.

Or, to access the Leeds and Liverpool Canal towpath from Leeds Railway Station, head south on New Station Street and take the pedestrian tunnel stairs, then continue onto Wharf Approach. You'll be walking on the canal towpath for about 30 minutes. You can access the museum directly from the canal path or leave the canal at Canal Road and follow the road around. The museum will be on your right.

By bike from Leeds Railway Station

It will take around 20 minutes to cycle from Leeds Railway Station to Armley Mills. Bike racks are available on site and bikes can be hired from Bike and Go at the city station.

The route

The 12-mile Towpath Walk along the banks of the Leeds to Liverpool Canal starts at Armley Mills and finishes at the beautiful heritage village of Saltaire. It's mostly Tree lined countryside and some areas maybe be unsuitable for wheelchairs. This is a level walk and should take between 4–6 hours.

Dogs are welcome. Please keep on a tight leash for the comfort and safety of other walkers.
