The adventure starts in the bustling capital of Deli where you’ll be able to explore the city before our first team dinner that evening. The next day we make our way to Dharamsala - the home of the Dalai Lama. Here we will explore the temples and monasteries; all dotted with colourful Tibetan prayer flags. After an overnight stay we are off to Bir which sits at the foot of the Himalayas, here we can relax in the grounds before our trek starts the next day.

The amazing 5 day trek begins around the Uhl valley and river where we will pass through local villages and stop for a sunset dip in a water-spot. Keep an eye out for Himalayan wildlife! Over the next few days we trek past snow-capped mountains, local villages and camp under the stars. It’s the penultimate day where you have time to reflect on the challenge and celebrate your success with an evening meal. Then we have a relaxing day set amid Japanese Gardens before we make our way back to Deli.

Getting prepared for your challenge

This is a trek suitable for all abilities, however we would recommend that you train for this challenge. We recommend you train for three - six months prior to taking part dependent on your current fitness.

On the challenge, we advise you to go at your own pace – it’s not a race and the idea is to enjoy yourself.

Once you’ve registered, you’ll have access to our detailed training guidelines to help you prepare for the challenge. Our walking training zone is also full of top tips.

What you'll need to wear on the challenge

Below you will find a full Kit list for this challenge.

If you don’t want to buy everything on the list you can hire some of the equipment from Trek Hire.

How to reach your fundraising goal

Reaching your fundraising goal can be daunting, but don’t panic we’re here to help.

Breaking it down into manageable chunks is a great way to start. To help you we’ve put together a fundraising plan. Visit our fundraising area for even more top tips.

Shout about your challenge

Set up a JustGiving page. Taking on the Dalai Lama trek is an epic challenge and one you should be proud of so tell your friends, family and colleagues. Climbing as high as 3,050m is tough so let them know just how much of a challenge it will be.

Why set up a JustGiving page?

Setting up a JustGiving page is a great way to kick start your fundraising, and keep your sponsors up-to-date with what you’re doing.

Did you know…

  • People who have a JustGiving page raise 50% more money than those who don’t
  • Every time you share your page you’ll earn £5 on average
  • Every time you update your page you can earn £7 on average.

Make the most out of your page by uploading images, posting updates on how your training is going and sharing British Heart Foundation facts so your supporters know why you’re fundraising us.

Why is your fundraising so important?

Before the British Heart Foundation was founded 4 in 5 children born with congenital heart disease died before their first birthday. Today in the UK, thanks to research, 4 in 5 survive into adulthood.

Even with this progress coronary heart disease is still the UK’s single biggest killer, but we’re leading the fight against it. To win this fight we need your help. Together we will improve lives.
