23 November - 2 December
The Big Heart Bike Ride starts in San Jose where we’ll get a good night’s sleep before our cycling adventure begins.
Rise and shine, it's an early start in Limon as we make our way to Finca Pacuarito along the beautiful blue coast of the Caribbean. We’ll pass banana plantations as we cycle amongst the wildlife. The next day begins with the Pacuare River crossing and we stop here to explore the bustling town of Siquirres. We then cross two more rivers and end the night in Guapiles. Over the next few days we cycle through lush tropical vegetation on route to the Arenal Volcano. Lake Arenal is the highlight of the trip with stunning views for miles! The cycle ends by riding to the Pacific Ocean where we can reflect and celebrate your success.

On the day
The Big Heart Bike Ride is suitable for all abilities, a number of people when they sign up have little or no fitness level, however we would recommend that you get a bit of practice in for this challenge. We recommend you train for three - six months prior to taking part dependent on your current fitness.
On the challenge, we advise you to go at your own pace – it’s not a race and the idea is to enjoy yourself.
Once you’ve registered, you’ll have access to our detailed training guidelines to help you prepare for the challenge. Our cycling zone is also full of top tips.
What you'll need to wear on the challenge
A cycling helmet is essential. Cycling shorts are also recommended and everyone will need their own water bottles or a camel back-pack hydration system. Apart from that no specialist equipment is required. The Tour Operators will supply you with a list of everything you need before the big day. You will have the choice of 18 or 21 gear bikes and it is suggested you bring the saddle or gel cover you are used to riding on.

Why set up a JustGiving page?
Setting up a JustGiving page is a great way to kick start your fundraising, and keep your sponsors up-to-date with what you’re doing.
Did you know…
- People who have a JustGiving page raise 50% more money than those who don’t
- Every time you share your page you’ll earn £5 on average
- Every time you update your page you can earn £7 on average.
Make the most out of your page by uploading images, posting updates on how your training is going and sharing British Heart Foundation facts so your supporters know why you’re fundraising us.
Why is your fundraising so important?
Before the British Heart Foundation was founded 4 in 5 children born with congenital heart disease died before their first birthday. Today in the UK, thanks to research, 4 in 5 survive into adulthood.
Even with this progress coronary heart disease is still the UK’s single biggest killer, but we’re leading the fight against it. To win this fight we need your help. Together we will improve lives.
