On the day
||Registration is open
||Start - waves of riders set off every 10 minutes
||Cut-off time at finish line
You can start the ride at any time between 8:30 and 10:30. There will be a short safety briefing before you depart.
Starting from Martello fields in Seaford, your calves will be put to the test straight away as you climb the chalky cliffs to see the stunning views on offer from Seaford Cliffs. You’ll then head along the Cuckmere river to the beautiful village of Alfriston. Then it’s on towards the Exceat Visitor’s centre before climbing up onto the South Downs, where you’ll cross the river Ouse before joining the South Downs Way.
After taking in these stunning views you’ll start the descent to the Seafront by Brighton Marina where you’ll have the cliffs to your left, and the sea lapping against the wall to your right, all under the August sunshine. You’ll then continue along the coastal footpath as you make your way back to Seaford – where we will greet you with a champions cheer. The finish site will have lots of things to do if you have any family and friends who aren’t keen on cycling but want to come down and have a fun day out anyway!
This event is the perfect summer time adventure, with exclusive access to closed private paths you’ll experience a ride and views that members of the public won’t. The terrain of the 35 mile route isn’t too technical (a perfect introduction for mountain bike beginners), but it will still be a physical challenge – with some killer climbs! For more experienced riders, we can promise one of the most scenic and beautiful routes you’ve ever had the pleasure of riding – and our 10 mile route extension through Friston Forest’s mountain bike trail is guaranteed to get your adrenaline pumping.
This route is being designed exclusively for the British Heart Foundation by Rough Ride Guide.
For the 35 mile route, the terrain will not be overly technical – meaning that the event will be suitable for mountain biking beginners. However don’t mistake this for an easy ride, it will be physically tough and there will be a number of brutal climbs that will test the calves of even the most experienced rider – but the views at the top will be worth it.
The additional 10 miles will be a lot more technical, suiting more experienced riders looking for a mixture of beautiful views and some adrenaline fuelled trails.
More information about the route will be added soon including maps, GPX files and terrain profiles, in the meantime we are uploading a series of preview video clips that will give you an idea of the terrain, views and some things to expect on the big day.
For more information about the event, check out our South East Coast Off-Road FAQs.
