Prescription charges

Pills in hand

What is the problem?

Drugs only available on prescription are vital in our fight against heart disease. They can prevent people from developing heart disease and support heart patients in managing their condition.

All prescriptions have been made free of charge in Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland. This is fantastic news. But many heart patients in England still have to pay for their prescriptions.

Having to pay for medication may put some people off taking the drugs they need to manage their condition or to reduce their risk of heart disease.

What needs to happen?

We want free prescriptions for everyone with a long-term condition in England and the protection of free prescriptions in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

We are working with other charities through the Prescription Charges Coalition, to try to make sure that this happens
