Volunteering at a BHF shop is great fun and there’s something to suit everyone, whatever your skills and interests. All we ask is that you are 15 years old or above.

We are always looking for…
Book specialists
Do you have an interest in books? If so, you might enjoy working in the book section in one of our BHF shops or in one of our specialist bookstores, where you will sort, price and display the books.

Window dressers
At the BHF we are very proud of our seasonal window displays. If you have a flair for colour and fashion you could join in the fun and help us to create eye-catching displays.

Jewellery enthusiasts
Do you know your costume jewellery from your real gems? If so, you might be interested in sorting, pricing and displaying donated jewellery items.

Antique specialists
Do you know a genuine Picasso from a print? We always need people with specialist knowledge to help us get the right price for antiques or other valuable items.

Shop floor volunteers
We are always looking for helpful, responsible people to work on the shop floor. We have two or more persons on the sales floor whenever possible. One operates the till and the other generally supervises, assisting customers and making them feel welcome, putting stock out and keeping the shop floor tidy. 

Making sure that the rails and shelves are kept full at all times is particularly important, as is keeping an eye on security.  The till has to be manned at all times and operating it is a responsible job.  Full training would be given both on the operation of the till and on various procedures such as refunds and donations.

Stock sorters and pricers
BHF shops only sell good quality items. We receive stock from house-to-house collections and also donated stock through the door. We are always in need of volunteers to help sort and price stock to ensure that we get the best price for the best quality items.

Car drivers
Sometimes people ring up and ask us up to collect items from their house. For this we need volunteer drivers who have use of a car.

Recruiting and training volunteers
One of the most effective ways of recruiting volunteers is by talking to people and finding out if volunteering appeals to them. A number of our shops are now looking for volunteers to specialise in this role.

Events people
At certain times of the year we need volunteers to assist with promotions and to help us to sell raffle tickets such as Christmas and Valentines Day.
