British Association of Cardiac Rehabilitation (BACR)

The BACR is a multi-disciplinary body representing and serving the interests of all professionals involved with cardiac rehabilitation. The aim of the association is to promote the practice and philosopy of cardiac rehabilitaion and liaise with other related organisations. The diverse membership is formed of nurses, exercise physiologists, GP's, cardiologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, psychologists and academics.

Building your Business case

The BHF and the NHS Heart Improvement Programme (formerly CHDC) have produced a guide to putting together a business case for cardiac rehabilitation (CR) services. The guide will help health professionals write a business case and/or a bid for funding either from within their own Trust or an outside agency. It is specifically aimed at CR, but aspects could be used to develop any health related case.

Cardiac Rehabilitation Campaign

The National Campaign for Cardiac Rehabilitation has been launched by the British Heart Foundation, the British Association for Cardiac Rehabilitation, Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland and patient groups around the UK to lead the fight for quality rehabilitation to be made available for all heart patients who need it.

Cardio & Vascular Coalition (CVC)

The CVC is a national coalition of 36 voluntary organisations with an interest in promoting and protecting cardio/vascular health in England. With the National Service Framework for Coronary Heart Disease coming to a close at the end of 2009, the CVC is campaigning for a new, comprehensive Cardio & Vascular Health Strategy for 2010 to 2020.

Cardiac Rehab UK Newsletter

Cardiac Rehab UK is a free newsletter, produced three times per year (January, May and September), and distributed to over 2,000 people. The newsletter is aimed at health professionals either working in, or with an interest in cardiac rehabilitation.

The newsletter is produced in partnership with the BACR and the NHS Heart Improvement Programme (formerly CHDC) and is project led by BHF. It aims to highlight the work of all three partners in relation to cardiac rehab, sharing news, views, events and highlighting areas of good practice.

Heartstart UK

Heartstart UK is an initiative coordinated by the BHF to teach members of the public what to do in a life threatening emergency: simple skills that can save lives. It provides opportunities for people to learn the vital skills of ELS.

Register of Cardiac rehabilitation programmes in the UK

The register enables health professionals to contact other cardiac rehabilitation teams for advice, information sharing, support and referrals between programmes. Patients can also use this register to find their local CR programme. To find your nearest programme please call 01904 321 385.

Resuscitation Council

The objective of the Resuscitation Council is, to facilitate education of both lay and healthcare professional members of the population in the most effective methods of resuscitation appropriate to their needs.

The Road to Recovery: A Cardiac Rehabilitation programme

This programme is currently being piloted by 25 sites across the UK. YorkUniversity have been commissioned to carry out the evaluation of the programme. The report is due in spring 2009. If the evaluation shows that the programme is beneficial to patients, the resources will be updated and the programme rolled out nationally at the end of 2009.

Walking the way to Health (WHI)

WHI is the largest national body promoting and setting the standards of led health walks. It is a joint initiative between Natural England and the British Heart Foundation. WHI aims to encourage people, particularly those who take little exercise, to do regular short walks in their communities.
