Intermediate Basic Science Research Fellowship

("IBSRF")

Purpose:
To provide a career opportunity for talented individuals hoping to become research leaders in an established research institution in the UK.

Entry requirement:
• Usually 3-6 years successful postdoctoral work with a series of first or senior author high impact research papers.
• Residency requirements apply – check eligibility in General Information on Research Grants (please see section 11).

Duration of grant:
4 years with the possibility of a 1 year extension if a strong case can be made (e.g. that this will lead to a competitive application for a more senior personal award). Up to 1 year of the award may be spent overseas subject to a justified case being made.

Award may include:
• Salary of applicant
• Salary of a technician or research assistant if required and fully justified
• Research consumables, directly attributable to the project
• Research equipment essential for the project

How to apply:
The application must be written by the applicant. Candidates may be interviewed. Please read the documents listed in Application Checklist

What to submit:
• Completed application form: Form IBSRF

• Detailed research proposal and other information as listed in Application Checklist
• Add the following additional information:
  – Full CV of the candidate and career intentions
  – Letter of support from the Head of Department
  – Brief CV of the supervisor(s) (2 A4 sides max)
  – Brief CV of named staff for whom salary is requested

Number of copies required:
12 collated copies of the application form and supporting information.

Decision process:
There are no closing dates. Please submit the application when it is ready. Receipt will be acknowledged within 1 month and we will advise you when you can expect the result. Candidates may be interviewed and a decision on this will be reached by the Fellowships Committee (4 meetings a year) after it has considered external peer review reports. Allow 9 months from submission to decision.
