Hospitalisation
People with heart disease often need to
receive treatment in hospital
In England people with coronary heart disease (CHD) represent 4
per cent of all hospital inpatient episodes for men and 1.6 per
cent for women. In Scotland they represent 5 per cent for men and 2
per cent for women.
Overall, there were around 422,000 inpatient episodes of CHD in
National Health Service hospitals in 2008/09 in England, and a
further 49,000 in Scotland and 27,000 in Wales.
Further statistics on hospitalisation can be found in our
publication Coronary Heart
Disease Statistics 2010
