Physical activity levels in England and Scotland have increased over the past decade. Despite this increase, physical activity levels in the UK still remain low. Men in Scotland exercise the most with 45 per cent exercising above the recommended levels.

However, in Northern Ireland the precentage meeting the recommended levels is just 33 per cent. The percentage of women meeting the recommended levels is even lower, at 33 per cent in Scotland and 22 per cent in Wales.

There is a big difference in physical activity levels by household income. A higher percentage of those people who live in households with the highest income are meeting recommended activity levels compared to those in the lowest.
