Public health targets
In 1999 the Department of Health produced a government
action plan called 'Our Healthier Nation'.
The action plan included a target to reduce the number
of deaths from coronary heart disease (CHD), stroke and related
diseases in people under 75 years in
England by at least two-fifths by 2010. In 2007 the figure was
already below the target rate.
Data also indicates that the
Scottish target for reduction in cardiovascular disease (CVD)
death rates may be met by 2010, and that the
Welsh target for a reduction in CHD deaths by 2012 has already
been achieved.
More detailed statistics on mortality can be found in our
publication Coronary Heart
Disease Statistics 2010
