Case fatalities
Circulatory disease is still a major cause of death in
the UK.
In England around 11 per cent of men and 15 per cent of women
who were admitted to hospital with a heart attack (myocardial
infarction) in 2006 had died within 30 days.
In Scotland, case fatality rates were higher, with 12 per cent
of men and 19 per cent of women admitted with a heart attack dying
within 30 days.
