Statin discovery
BHF Professor Sir Rory
Collins heads an Oxford University team
behind an important recent
discovery about statins, the drugs often prescribed to lower
harmful cholesterol. Sir Rory was knighted last year for Services
to Science.
Heart
failure breakthrough
One of our newest BHF Professors, Kinya
Otsu, has made a heart failure breakthrough. The build-up
of immune cells in heart failure could actually be caused by the
body's own DNA.
Outstanding service to cardiology
In May our Medical Director, Professor Peter
Weissberg, was awarded the distinguished MacKenzie
Medal in recognition of his outstanding service to British
cardiology. The award is the British Cardiovascular Society's
highest honour.
