Storm Thorgerson
Teardrop
Silkscreen Print
Image size: 415 x 415 mm
Paper size: 585 x 750 mm
Based on his 1973 iconic album cover
The Dark Side of the Moon for Pink
Floyd, Thorgerson has amended this classic image to
reflect the theme 'Mending Broken Hearts'.
In Teardrop, Thorgerson harnesses the scientific
imagery of light passing through a
prism and softens it by replacing the hard-edged
prism with a teardrop. The fluid shapes of the
rainbow colours that emanate from the teardrop are
joyous and hopeful compared to the monochromatic scheme on the
opposite side of the composition, suggesting that we must suffer
before we can rejoice.

About the Artist
Storm Thorgerson was born in Hertfordshire
in 1944. He is an English graphic designer
and well known for his work for rock bands such as Pink
Floyd, Led Zeppelin, 10cc, Dream Theater, The Mars Volta, Muse, and
The Cranberries.
Thorgerson's design for Pink
Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon has been called one
of the greatest album covers of all time. Many of
his designs are notable for their surreal
elements. He often places objects out of their traditional
contexts, especially with vast spaces around them, to give them an
awkward appearance while highlighting their beauty.
Several books have been devoted to surveying
Thorgerson's work, which spans more than three decades.
