Heart walk

Fun events

From bike rides, walks and runs, skips and junior golf days to abseils and mountain climbs, British Heart Foundation events inspire participants and sponsors to support the BHF, and they're good for the heart too!

Three of our major corporate supporters in 2004/05 were Shredded Wheat, Tetley and Candis magazine.

Action

The BHF London to Brighton Bike Ride in tandem with Shredded Wheat is our biggest fundraising event of the year and the biggest charity bike ride in Europe.

The BHF's Hearts First series of bike rides, jogs and walks was launched with around 70 events taking place in the heart of the community, from Bute to Bournemouth, Swansea to Southend.

Jump Rope For Heart is the BHF's popular sponsored skipping challenge. Sponsored skips keep children's hearts pumping while the school and the BHF benefit from the money raised.

Impact

Since the first London to Brighton Bike Ride in 1980, the event has raised more than £31 million for the Charity and has attracted more than 580,000 riders. The 2004 Ride raised just under £3 million.

More than 24,000 people dusted off their trainers, walking boots or bicycles and took part in a Hearts First event raising an incredible £1.3 million for the nation's heart charity.

Tens of thousands of children took part in Jump Rope for Heart during the school year, raising £913,000 for the Charity and £228,000 for their schools to fight heart and circulatory disease.

Next steps

More than 90 Hearts First events are scheduled for 2005 and we have launched Hearts First Challenges for tougher teams and individuals. Events like sea swims and long distance bike rides will really test our fitter supporters' endurance and fundraising skills.

Jump Rope For Heart becomes ever more popular with thousands of schools and groups set to participate this year.
