Cordelia's story
Cordelia was
born with a congenital heart defect and at ten
days old she underwent open heart surgery which lasted over seven
hours. Cordelia rapidly recovered after the surgery and after
nine days was allowed home.
She has grown into an energetic two year old, full of mischief
and confidence, with a cheeky infectious smile. She is now fine,
but still has check ups once a year.

Aaron's story
Aaron, now seven, was diagnosed with a
major heart defect (hypoplastic left heart
syndrome – commonly known as half-a-heart syndrome) before he was
born. With the help of the BHF, his parents were fully prepared for
what was going to happen after his birth.
Aaron has now had 4 operations for his
condition and as he gets older he will need a heart transplant.
‘Throughout all this Aaron has been an absolute star,’ Sam
says.

Graham and Barbara's story
Two years ago Graham, now in his 70s, started
to suffer from chest pains and breathlessness
which escalated during a holiday in Wales.
Graham was diagnosed with heart failure and
was discharged a week later. Initially he and Barbara found it
difficult to adjust to his condition. Fortunately Anne, their BHF
heart nurse helped the couple adjust and Graham gradually got back
on his feet.
Alexandra
Alexandra, now 17, was diagnosed with a serious
heart defect (atrial septal defect) five years ago. She
had to undergo major heart surgery and was worried that the
resulting scar would ruin her dreams of becoming a model.
‘I feel that I have shown there is life after
open-heart surgery’, she says. I am proud of my scar because it
shows all that I have been through. My energy is a little limited
but life really is wonderful.’
