Cycling Policy
Brief
Campaign Policy
calls
This paper, which supported the BHF’s
Lifecycle campaign, calls on action by government, employers,
schools and other public institutions to broaden the appeal of
cycling. Policy calls included:
Building upon existing success stories – initiatives like the
National Cycle Network, Cycle Demonstration Towns, and the Safe
Routes to School
Integrating cycling into urban planning – Bike-friendly routes
and traffic restraint should be integrated into planning as a
matter of course. Secure parking and bike storage should be a
priority at popular destinations.
Cycling targets – targets for increasing the number of journeys
undertaken by bicycle, involving employers and schools in promoting
cycling among their staff and pupils through the provision of
secure facilities and showers.
