About the National Campaign for Cardiac
Rehabilitation
TheNational Campaign for Cardiac
Rehabilitation has been launched by British Heart
Foundation alongside the
British Association for Cardiac
Rehabilitation.
The campaign is run separately in each UK
nation. Partner organisations include Chest, Heart and Stroke
Scotland, the All Wales Cardiac Rehabilitation Working
Group, Heart Care Partnership UK and Arrhythmia Alliance.
Currently, nearly 3 million people in
the UK are living with the burden of heart disease, the
country’s biggest killer. The campaign was launched because
rehabilitation can save lives and improve quality of life,
enabling heart patients to escape the fear and isolation that being
diagnosed with heart disease or suffering a heart attack can
bring.
It aims to ensure that high quality cardiac
rehabilitation is available to all UK heart
patients who can benefit from it.

National Audit of Cardiac Rehabilitation
The National Audit of Cardiac
Rehabilitation is a BHF-funded project, recognised by UK
governments, which forms part of the Central Cardiac Audit Dataset
(CCAD) programme run by the NHS Information Centre.
The project audits the number of patients seen
in a year by cardiac rehabilitation programmes across the UK (60%
of the total) and assesses the benefits for patients.
The Annual Report is compiled by the BHF Care
and Education Research Group at the University of York.
