Making exercise funPlaying football

The key to staying active is choosing activities that are fun to do. Set yourself some realistic goals and make sure you reward yourself if you reach your target!

There are lots of easy ways to get your 30 a day.

Here are some our top tips:

Try something new

You may have bad memories of running round a school sports field but there are lots of new, fun activities out there you might enjoy. How about salsa dancing, aqua aerobics or Pilates? Check out your local leisure centre and try something different.

Sport England’s Active Places lists all the local groups and facilities in your area.

Get a friend to join you

If you find it hard to stay motivated ask a friend to join you. Get family and friends to encourage you, remind you about your goals or help out with domestic commitments to allow you time to exercise.

Do it to musicman dancing

If you’re washing the car or vacuuming the house, put on some lively music and try and keep in time. You’ll have done your 30 minutes without even realising it.

Look good

You don’t need any special equipment to get active but sometimes investing in a new pair of walking shoes or a new swimming costume makes you feel good and helps you get started. Or why not buy a pedometer to count your steps?

Don’t overdo it

If you haven’t been active before then build up slowly. Regular moderate activity is better than the occasional burst of vigorous activity.

Reward yourself

You should be aiming to do 30 minutes of moderate activity five times a week. To get your heart rate up, try printing out our activity planner. If you stick to it - then reward yourself, maybe with some stylish clothes for the new, fitter you.
