New flight guidance great news for heart patients
The majority
of heart patients can fly safely without risking their health,
according to new guidance from the British Cardiovascular
Society.
There has been some
uncertainty in the past about when and if people
with a heart condition
can fly safely. New guidance now shows there are very few heart
conditions that mean patients are unsafe to travel by
air.
Our senior cardiac nurse, June
Davison, said: “This is great news
for heart patients.
“Historically there’s been some confusion
about when and if people with heart and
circulatory conditions can fly. These expert
guidelines provide some clarity and show flying is safe
for most people with heart and circulatory disease.
“However, if you've recently had a
heart attack, heart surgery or been in
hospital with any other heart condition you should check
with your doctor before travelling by air.”
We have lots of travel and holiday tips if
you’re thinking of jetting off on your summer
holidays soon.
The guidance follows the British
Cardiovascular Society’s ‘Fitness to Fly for
passengers with cardiovascular disease’ report.
