Statins do not raise risk of cancer, says new
study
Researchers have found that taking statins does not increase the risk of developing
cancer.
Statins are taken
to lower cholesterol and reduce the risk
of a heart
attack.
The study, which is part funded by us, is the
largest and most reliable of its kind, analysing the data from
166,000 people in 25 previous trials.
Our senior cardiac nurse, Judy O'Sullivan, said: “This is
very reassuring for millions of people who take
statins every day. The simple fact is that statins save lives, they
don’t increase the risk of cancer.”
