Supporting the Westfield Health British Transplant Games
We have
become the latest supporters of the 2012 Westfield Health British
Transplant Games.
This year’s
Westfield Health British Transplant Games will be held in
Medway, Kent, from 23 - 26 August. Hundreds of
transplant athletes will compete in sporting events ranging from
archery to running and darts to swimming, with most of the action
held at the £11.1 million Medway Park.
Our Associate Medical Director, Dr Mike
Knapton, said: “The BHF is proud to be supporting
the British Transplant Games.
“The participants of the Games are a powerful
demonstration of the effectiveness of
transplantation to transform people’s lives and inspire
future generations by proving that no matter what your
circumstances you can enjoy sport and have fun.

“The Games are also a
great opportunity to raise awareness of
organ donation and encourage many
more
people to sign up to the
NHS Organ Donation
Register.
“The number of heart
transplants carried out in the UK is limited by the number of
suitable donated organs, so getting more people to agree to make
the ultimate gift offers hope to individuals
living with heart disease.”
The event will closely follow the Olympics,
and precede the Paralympics, and organisers are hoping that people
will get behind the Games in this sporting
year.
We'll also have specially
trained reporters, from our unique
programme for young people with heart
conditions, at the event.
